The Ultimate Swine Flu Survival Guide

Thanksgiving is the most traveled holiday in the United States.  Consequently, with flu activity still quite high, there is concern that widespread travel will bring with it a more rapid spread of the H1N1 flu virus across the country.  For this reason, the CDC is recommending some common sense rules for traveling this Holiday season:

  • Don't travel if you're sick
  • Wash your hands often (especially when touching public surfaces, such as on trains and airplanes)
  • Cover your mouth when you cough and sneeze (with your shoulder or a tissue, not your hand)
  • Those in priority groups for the H1N1 vaccine should get vaccinated (well, this will work for Christmas, but not for Thanksgiving at this point, since it takes approximately 2 weeks to develop protective immunity)
To these I add:

  1. Take extra Vitamin D when you travel
  2. Take a preventive dose of Elderberry extract when traveling
  3. Travel with a hand sanitizer (these have been proven to kill 99% of germs)

Swine flu survival is about common sense measures, combined with some less known measures that go a long way.
